How to DIY the Question of the Day for Kids
Purchase a large drip pan that looks like a giant cookie sheet. You can find them available at a car or hardware store (like Ace Hardware) and they also have them on Amazon HERE. The pan is an oil drip pan by Blitz. On the back of the pan, put strips of double-sided foam tape and pushed it onto the bulletin board where you want it displayed.
Every morning the kids come in and go straight to the board. They read aloud the question of the day for kids to hear since I have students who are learning how to read. They place their name cards under “yes” or “no” for their answer to the question.

Other Fun Ways to use the Question of the Day
Shrink a month worth of Question of the Day cards and hole punch them in the corner. Place on a ring and hang on your classroom whiteboard or door and use for quick questions to connect with your class during morning meetings, transitions, or whenever a change of pace is needed.
Another way to use the Question of the Day cards is to shrink and hang one each day in the classroom window. Make it visible to the kids outside and have them get their answer ready for you. When you open the door, look each child in the eyes, share your answer and have them share their answer back. It’s a great way to build a connection with each day every day!
Just Like the Question of the Day for Kids: The In and Out Board
Kids can also use their name cards to indicate on the “In & Out” board (a cookie sheet on the wall) when they leave the room to go to the washroom, etc. This is a great way to keep track, at a glance, as to where your students are and it helps them learn responsibility and to be accountable.

I do Question of the Day every morning when my kindergartners arrive. However, there are some who always forget, especially the ones who go to breakfast right away. After doing the calendar, we add the yes and no and learn to count on. My questions include a word using the letters we are working on that week. I also come up with seasonal questions or questions that have to do with our spirit day that day (ex. are you wearing pajamas?) For attendance, students have to come to me to check in so I mark them in my book, then put attendance into the computer. I like your drip pan; I need to get one. Just not sure where to put it as I have limited space.
