Spring Science Activities and How To Draw a Frog
Spring is the season of new beginnings and the perfect time to teach all things spring, including flowers, chickens, butterflies, frogs, and more! Google and Pinterest have many beautiful activities like flower painting and scavenger hunts. But if you are looking for activities and lessons to teach students the standards in a thematic way, this is your source!
Simple spring lessons and activities help students grasp essential topics and instill fun and wonder!
When To Teach Spring Science
There’s no better time to teach about butterflies, flowers, frogs, and chickens than springtime. Take students outside and explore this April, May, and June, encouraging hands-on fun in nature!
Teaching Spring Science Activities In The Classroom
One of the joys of teaching primary grades is that I can incorporate multiple subject areas into one lesson. I saw that teaching one subject area for a long time would lose my student’s attention. Yet, when I introduced seasonal themes with various learning topics included, their engagement increased.
For example, a science lesson can easily incorporate ELA and writing, or social studies can include math. Try to plan and find ways to help students learn multiple topics and standards, making learning more enjoyable.
Types of engaging spring science and ELA activities to include.
- STEAM / STEM activities
- Science experiments
- Different genres of read-alouds with non-fiction and fiction books
- Vocabulary games and activities
- Writing activities and prompts
- How-to directed drawings
- Reading response questions
When teaching a themed non-fiction unit, you want meaningful activities that build new understanding. But that doesn’t mean you can’t throw in a few fun things, like learning to draw a frog!
