Fun Holiday Activities to Fit into Your Plans
Teachers may worry their principal or peers see directed drawing as a holiday activity that lacks educational quality. It can be hard to convince people of the benefits of directed drawing. Instead of persuading them, work directed drawing into your holiday lesson plans and show them how much students learn from it.
Easily incorporate Christmas directed drawing into fun lessons like the ones below.
- Research and write about the origin of the Christmas tree. Then, attach their writing to their tree drawing.
- Have students write a “how to” writing piece on catching Santa when he comes down the chimney. The book How to Catch Santa by Jean Reagan goes great with this activity!
- Give students the opportunity to “apply” to be one of Santa’s elves at the North Pole. Ask them to describe why they’d make a great elf and why Santa should pick them to join his crew.
- Read The Gingerbread Man Loose At Christmas, bake gingerbread cookies, and then draw a gingerbread man.
- Have students play the reindeer number line race from Fun Learning For Kids before working on their directed drawing, or add the directed drawing to your list of reindeer crafts for some holiday fun.
- Fill your December bookshelf with other Christmas stories and use them in connection with your drawing activities for the month.
