Today I’m bringing you one of my favorite Halloween art activities.
Frankenstein Franken-Buddies directed drawing!
Directed Drawing Steps
Below our my step by step instructions so you can create these cuties in your room.
I start by giving each child a large white piece of good art paper.
Turn it long side up and down and get a sharp pencil and eraser ready. I dislike too much erasing and encourage the kiddos to not expect or try for perfection!
I have my students complete the drawing with pencil and once they are happy with it, they can trace with a Sharpie marker and erase the pencil lines.
Then, they are ready to use their watercolor paints to paint their Franken-buddies.
I request that they use green for the face and black for the hair, but then the rest is up to their own creativity.
I love how great these Franken-buddies turn out. I especially love how excited and artistic my students feel after completing this directed drawing (or any for that matter).
Teaching kids to draw step by step is a powerful and effective tool!
Here are the 1st, 3rd, and 4th graders Franken-buddies on display in our school hallway. I love how they look cut-up and glued onto purple and black construction paper.
Each one is so interesting and unique in it’s own way!
I hope that you love one of my fall favorites for art and take the dive into directed drawing in your classroom.
