I have put in my name and email at least 3 times, nothing. I have checked my email. I have made sure you are in my ok file, not junk. I have confirmed my subscription at least 3 times. I just want the calendar that is promised.

Thank you for sending it to me.

My name is Brooklynn and I’m currently studying to be a teacher. I’m majoring in Elementary Education and, coincidentally enough, minoring in Social-Emotional learning! I was on the fence about it, but after reading your blog, I know I’m making the right decision. I’m currently taking Educational Technology and Design in the classroom and we are learning and becoming more aware about using and promoting technology in the classroom. You’re blog is awesome and I’m sure has helped so many teachers and pre-service teachers, including myself! How did you get started doing this? Your website has so much information and many great resources! I know I will be visiting your site again when I have a classroom of my own!!
Thanks so much!
Brooklynn

Thank you Lisa!
My passion began even before I started teaching. I was bullied as a child and have experienced some trauma as a teen. Those situations helped shape the person – educator and mother – I became.

I knew in high school that I wanted to help kids, either as a teacher or as a counselor. Once I became a teacher, I started teaching in an inner city school where kids came to school hungry, cold, and others without their basic needs met. I saw how much they needed a teacher who listened more than talked, let them play, and helped them navigate through hard times and emotions. I discovered the effectiveness of classroom meetings that year, and continued to use them every week after that as I went on to teach at other schools.

Teaching is not easy and I experienced my share of challenges in the classroom. But I never gave up or thought that things had to be hard or that kids needed to struggle socially or emotionally. I focused on developing a student-centered approach where kids were involved in decisions and important discussions. Together we navigated through the hard times and came up with positive strategies to try.

Since going full time as an author and creator for PTBP, I naturally was inclined to create SEL resources. I knew that these resources are what is needed today and that I wanted to help teachers by making them more readily available and accessible. My current knowledge comes a lot from talking to teachers in my Facebook group and on my email list. They share so much with me and I am so grateful that I am able to stay plugged in this way. CASEL is a resource I turn to and enjoy reading educational texts from authors specializing in SEL.

I really appreciate your thoughtfulness today and wish you a wonderful year!

I admire all you’ve done for SEL. I’m curious about how you’ve come to be so passionate about it. What’s your background in it? How did you learn so much about it?
